As the landscape of caravan parks in Tasmania continues to evolve, the need for a more structured approach to long-term residency has come into focus. With the Government initiating discussions on this important issue, Caravanning Tasmania is actively engaging in the process to ensure that the voices of both park operators and residents are heard.
Our Role in the Consultation Process
Recently, we were approached by the Government to participate in the consultation process on the regulation of long-term residency in caravan parks. This initiative is being led by the Department of Justice, which has released a Discussion Paper inviting feedback from the public and key stakeholders.
Reviewing Best Practices from Other States
As part of our commitment to this process, we are closely reviewing regulatory frameworks from other Australian states. While these states have implemented various provisions to address long-term residency, the approaches differ significantly. Our goal is to identify best practices that could be adapted to the unique context of Tasmania.
Gathering Industry Feedback
At this stage, our priority is to gather comprehensive feedback from our members and the broader industry. Your insights are crucial as we develop our formal submission to the Government’s discussion paper. We encourage all stakeholders to share their experiences and perspectives to help shape the future of long-term residency in our state’s caravan parks.
Moving Forward
It’s still early days, and we are in the process of collecting and analysing the necessary information. Until we have completed this review, we will refrain from making any detailed comments. However, we remain committed to advocating for a balanced regulatory framework that protects the rights of residents while supporting the sustainability of caravan parks as a viable housing option.
We will continue to keep our members informed as the consultation progresses and encourage you to participate by sharing your views with us or directly through the Department of Justice’s consultation process.
