Tim Curtis, Senior Regional Operations Manager for Discovery Holiday Parks, has worked both in and around the tourism industry for the majority of his life.
Growing up on a dairy farm in East Gippsland, whose extended family-owned caravan parks and motels, he began his career making beds and checking guests in around the age of 10.
At the age 16, Tim went on to complete an apprenticeship as a chef, leading into hotel management, where he managed a 38-room motel and 80-pax restaurant at the age of 19 in Bairnsdale, Victoria.
Falling into software design and development, Tim secured a position at RMS lasting over 15 years where he played an important role in providing guidance and direction to the product development team in its growth as an emerging industry partner.
As an expert in his field, Tim was seen for many years presenting the RMS system on stages spread all over the world, as RMS expanded its reach into the UK, US and UAE markets.
With his background in both operations and systems, he later went on to work for Discovery Holiday Parks playing a critical role in the development of their IT management systems, and business intelligence platforms.
More recently, Tim has pivoted back to property operations and currently holds the position of Senior Regional Operations Manager for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, consisting of over 30 properties.
Simultaneously, Tim also holds the role of Integration Manager, ensuring the smooth embedding of newly acquired properties into the Discovery business.
Tim also holds a position on the Caravanning Tasmania board providing support and guidance as a member of a wider team.
Tim brings with him a wealth of operational and systems knowledge that he is keen to leverage to guide the wider Caravanning Tasmania membership to help the continuing evolution of the industry in what would be considered one of the most underrated destination sectors in the country.
“The caravan and camping sector in Tasmania is poised for evolutional change. With increased capacity coming from the two new Spirit’s and additional flights from Rex and Bonza, coupled with continued capital investment in many outstanding destination locations that our island state has to offer, we are in the perfect position to see rapid growth, evolution and opportunity across the entire state.” Tim said.
