Opened in 1988 and acquired by Discovery Parks in 2007, Discovery Parks – Cradle Mountain has become a must-see for caravanners and holidayers making their way through Tasmania.

Discovery Parks says the park has become one of the nation’s most spectacular and iconic destinations.

“[It’s in] high demand location for domestic and international travellers,” says a Discovery Park spokesperson.

“The region continues to be attractive to a broad demographic of travellers.

“From hikers to self-drive tourists making their way around Tasmania to people seeking a getaway in one of Australia’s most remarkable natural locations, there is an evergreen appeal in the location.”

Discovery Parks expect a further increase in demand as recent regional investments have made it an even more attractive destination.  This includes the new Dove Lake viewing shelter and visitor centre, which form part of the Tasmanian Government’s $27 million Cradle Mountain Visitor Experience Master Plan.

“The park is one of only a few accommodation offerings on the Mountain and offers the most diversity in accommodation,” says the Discovery Park spokesperson.

“From newly built luxury premium cabins, cottages, cabins and backpacker accommodation as well as camping and caravan sites, it really offers something for everyone.”

A Discovery Parks spokesperson says they believe Cradle Mountain has been able to mature its offerings through consistent, high-quality service.

“[It] speaks to everything from ensuring we have high-quality facilities supported by best-in-class cleaning, maintenance and grounds care programs,” the spokesperson said.

“These aspects are essential to ensuring a quality guest experience that will have people returning time and time again.

“The other aspect is continued investment in product, ensuring that we keep pace with the demand for modern, high-quality accommodation.”

In December 2023, Discovery Park – Cradle Mountain unveiled a $20 million redevelopment for the 30-year-old site.

“The redevelopment includes 30 new cabins, 40 new tourist sites and upgraded amenities across the property.  The development also saw the launch of a new, premium cabin category,” the spokesperson said.

“Featuring opulent finishes, elegant open fireplaces and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows that frame uninterrupted forest views, the 11 new premium cabins are designed to draw in high-value international tourists and visitors seeking an air of luxury in one of Australia’s most sought-after nature destinations.”

Discovery Parks says the new offerings will add to the property’s broad demographic appeal while providing much-needed additional accommodation capacity on the Mountain.
