On Thursday July 4, Caravanning Tasmanian President Dennis Austin sat down with other state business leaders and Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality the Hon Jeremy Rockliff MP to discuss industry activity and frustrations.
The Premier expressed his concerns that Tasmanian caravan parks would not be ready for the hopeful avalanche of new bookings out of new Spirit of Tasmania capacity, and this is something we will look to seek some funding out of the Tasmanian Government to assist.
Dennis was also able to raise the frustration around worker accommodation and the restrictions placed around a maximum 88 day stay in some areas. This got considerable traction around the room as other businesses with tourism interests also expressed similar concerns. We will continue to discuss this with the Premier’s office to see if this can be extended.
These opportunities are a fantastic way in which the interests of Caravanning Tasmania members can be prosecuted with our senior politicians, and the association as well as caravanning generally can lift its profile to make sure it is front of mind with key decision makers.
